The Copper Works Newlyn

The Team

Michael Johnson is the principal craftsman overseeing the work currently being carried out in the workshop and providing training and facilities for fellow craftsmen working in the workshop.

Peter Wilson has a background in engineering and joined the workshop shortly after its inception in 2005. Having been raised in Newlyn he has a strong empathy with the heritage of copper work in his hometown. A determination to carve out his own career based in his own village is testament to a strength that has seen his burgeoning skills manifest in some truly wonderful work. Restoration to The Fisherman’s Mission Galleon, Penlee Gallery Water Feature and The Trafalgar Trophy to name a few stand as examples of his fine craftsmanship.

Glen English has been working in metal even longer than his cousin Michael. They first worked together in 1994 with Glens father Terry English on the film First Knight. The past fifteen years has seen them work on numerous films in many countries. Specializing in detailed sculpted bronze, Glen brings a wealth of metal working skills to the workshop.

Dave Need runs his own carpentry workshop Marine Crafts. He specializes in furniture and wooden boat building. Dave and Mike have been developing furniture that combines copper, bronze and wood. Their most recent work was the complete furnishings for the sanctuary at Trinity Church Newlyn.

Marcus Perry has a background in stone masonry and worked with The Copper Works on the work displayed at Hampton Court Flower Show 2008. He has focused particularly on combining copper working skills to augment his stone carving to be applied to outdoor sculpture and water features.
