Penzance
Town Council Twinning Plate Commission
The most recent commission for Penzance Town Council
was for a ceremonial dish presented to the mayor of
Concarneau, the French town with which Penzance is twinned.
The dish reflects the heritage of fishing in both towns,
in particular the pressing of pilchards, seen bordering
the plate. The ocean and sea urchin continue the ocean
theme that both separate and connect the towns. The
repousse work in the sea urchin creates a deliberate
optical illusion, changing from concave to convex depending
on the angle from which it is seen.
Future commissions from Penzance Town Council include
Mayoral regalia to be ready for 2009.
